How to Make Simple Household Plumbing Repairs

Plastic pipe cutters

If you are like most people, you are probably intimidated by the idea of taking on a small plumbing job. But it may be much easier than you think, especially if you use plastic pipes and fittings. All you really need to do is cut the pipe and then attach or weld it to the fittings.

For cutting plastic pipe, use a pair of plastic pipe cutters, which are like a giant pair of shears. In about two or three squeezes of the cutters you're through the pipe with a nice, clean cut.

When it comes to welding or attaching it, you need two materials; a cleaner primer, and cement. Take the primer, which is purple, and go around three times with the applicator.

Next, do the same thing in the end of the fitting. Then use the adhesive or the cement and do the same thing, going around the pipe three times and inside the fitting three times with the cement

Place the two together, give them a quarter-turn and hold in place for a few seconds. That's it!

So, just think of the next plumbing project as a matter of cutting a few pieces of pipe, attaching them to the correct fittings and turning on the water.
