Learn how to replace a kitchen cooktop; watch a video that shows how gas and electrical connections are made as a new cooktop is installed.

Right away, test for possible leaks by spraying a soapy water solution on each connection between the new cooktop and the gas supply line.

If a connection is not tight enough, escaping gas will show up as soap bubbles around the connection. Retighten any loose fittings.

Shut the valve and the remaining pipe joints to make sure they are leak free.

When all connections and valves pass the test, open the valve and plug in the power cord.

Replace any drawers or cabinet doors that have been removed to allow for more work space.
